Strategic Materials Policy Tracker

A policy tracker that classifies government interventions on critical materials by jurisdiction, instrument, material and implementation status, with research dossiers built on the same evidence base.

Method

Built to be compared and checked

Comparable

Each intervention is classified by jurisdiction, instrument, material and implementation status, so measures can be compared across governments.

Auditable

Claims link to the government publication, legislation or disclosure behind them.

Careful with money

The tracker separates announcements, authorizations, commitments and disbursements rather than treating every figure as money spent.

Research

Two kinds of research output

Original research reports on what governments have done. Applied strategy uses that evidence for a hypothetical decision, and is labeled that way.
Research dossier 001Original research

Tungsten Supply Security

Compares how China, the EU, the UK and Japan act on tungsten: Chinese export licensing, EU Strategic Project designation, a UK package of £71m in which a £25m core loan has been drawn, and Japanese grants.

Antimony Supply Resilience

Applied Strategy 001 works through antimony supply options for a hypothetical defense manufacturer, with a model and stated assumptions. The manufacturer is invented; the case does not describe a real company.
